The picture in the site header is one I took at Minter Gardens 26 July 2008.
God. Faith. Family. Friends. Words. Photography. The Outdoors. Music. Everything else.
Basically, these are the most important things in my life, in this order. Without God none of the rest would exist, & this I believe firmly. Not because I merely follow what my parents and others have told me to do. I’m not really a follower. Nor am I a leader. I’m just me, a woman of devout faith with a relationship with God, and that’s the basic of my life.
My family is most important to me after God and faith, and I cherish them above all other people. I’m close to my parents & love them & my brother & sister-in-law deeply, & I’d do anything for any of them, as much as I could. I can’t imagine my life without any of them!
My friends are very special to me, & I do differentiate between those I consider friends & those I consider acquaintances. While it may seem like I make friends easily, that’s not the case. Yes, I do meet people easily & get to know others, but as far as letting people deep into the heart of me, that’s not something I do without getting to know someone well. I have 3 friends I call my “Sister Friends,” & there are a few others I consider family as well.
Words are wonderful! I have been keeping a diary – sporadically – since I was 7, & I’ve been writing stories almost as long. Poetry’s something I’ve dabbled in on-&-off since grade 11 Creative Writing, & I also love songwriting. Just the lyrics & melodies. All the rest will come if need be. Something about words is their power. That old saying about sticks & stones & how words will never hurt me – so wrong! I’ve been on the end of many a hurtful word, mostly during childhood. I know firsthand their potency & how they can either harm or heal, tear down or build up. I want to heal & build up with my words.
Photography is another thing I’ve always loved. I received my first camera – a 110 – one Christmas (1977, I believe), & have been shooting ever since. In May 2008, I bought myself a camera for the first time. Before this, they’d all been given to me. This one is a Fuji S700, & has been great for me! I use it to supplement my income through freelance work for the Agassiz-Harrison Observer, my town & area’s local paper. At other times, it just gets me out of my home & into nature. Not that I need an excuse to be out in nature….
The Outdoors. Wow! I don’t know where to begin! The first house I remember in which my family & I lived was on 56th Avenue between 264th & 248th in Aldergrove, & across the street was a turkey farm with a lot of bush. It’s no longer there, I believe, as a lot of development has happened since we move from there. The bush was great! I vaguely remember tramping through there, & my parents have told me many times about Dad & I going over there. He’d lose sight of me, but he still knew where I was because of the growth moving like crazy as I barrelled my way through. Now I tread much more quietly through the outdoors, but I still like to be in the bush, trail or no trail.
Music. Ah, music! So many things have been written about it, & I’m not going to try & be original. It really is food for the soul. You either starve it or nourish it, & I choose to nourish it. My all-time favourite music are old powerful standards of the church, especially certain hymns, & great choruses & some newer songs. A lot of songs in the church – not just today & from my lifetime – are full of fluff & feel-good-sentiment. Yes, there is something to be said for those songs, especially when God is glorified & praised, but I love a good meaty song based on Scripture & that honours & glorifies God while praising Him. Of course I like other music as well. I’m not a purely Christian music girl because I firmly believe that God is the Creator of music, & there’s some great secular stuff out there as well. Especially some excellent Canadian material!
Some other things I like are crafts (especially card making), hanging out with friends & closer acquaintances, watching movies & TV, & vegging after a hard day’s work.
Currently I’m working full-time in a coffee shop in my town, but I’m looking for other work that makes good use of my talents & gifts. I’m also searching for a job that pays much better &, if possible, has a benefit plan. However, I do like my co-workers, especially the woman with whom I work all the time, & the regular customers.
Well, that’s it for now! I’m sure I’ll change this around from time to time.
Blessings to all who visit & read my blog!
